Misleading Media

It is not uncommon these days to hear someone criticize "the media", especially the national media, for failing to prevent a true or accurate picture when covering a news story or issue. Recently, most of us in the real estate profession found a strong reason to believe such criticism is justified. On Sunday, May 6, 2007, the CBS program 60 Minutes ran a segment on some of the current practices in the real estate industry.

The National Association of Realtors and many brokerages had worked with 60 Minutes for the past twelve months to educate them about our industry and to correct misconceptions created by critics of our profession. Yet, the segment aired on 60 Minutes represented only a very small part of the issues explored by 60 Minutes.

In truth, the real estate industry is a highly competitive business. Both our National and local Associations of Realtors support all business models. At Coldwell Banker Select Realtors we believe the full service model fits the needs of our customers and our beliefs the best. We believe in the importance of technology for the benefit of our customers and we will continue to work to make our website and technological tools the best in the industry. We also recognize that most customers say reputation, experience and professionalism are still noted as the most important qualities to home buyers and sellers when hiring an agent.

Both Coldwell Banker Select and I are committed to providing the highest level of those qualities to our customers.
