Are you looking for ways to cut your energy bills this summer? Here are just a few simple tips that can help diminish summertime energy expenses.
Free:
- Keep your thermostat between 78º and 82º.
- Keep thermostat at 85º or higher when not at home.
- Use ceiling fans or portable fans. Ceiling fans can help keep a room up to 5º cooler.
- Keep drapes/window shades closed.
- Turn off lights when leaving rooms.
- Unplug appliances when not in use.
- Use the microwave and/or patio grill instead of stove top or oven.
Inexpensive Cost:
- Replace air conditioning filters once a month.
- Keep area around outside air conditioning unit clear of weeds and debris.
- Use compact fluorescent light bulbs.
- Install a programmable thermostat.
- Caulk or weather strip leaky doors and windows.
- Wrap hot water tank with jacket insulation.
