The revival of a long forgotten 12th century tradition from Central Europe is re-entering the spotlight this season as a novelty item. In 2005, retail shops began displaying their upside-down trees in order to allow more space on the floor for customers. Soon consumers wanted upside down trees of their own.

This year, many retailers are selling their upside-down wares at prices ranging from $299-$699, with several retailers already sold out for the year! According to retailers, the upside-down trees have several advantages including:

• Takes up less floor space
• Can fit larger presents and more of them!
• Easier to see ornaments as well as protecting them from children and pets

Upside-Down Christmas trees are typically hung one of three ways: mounted on a weighted stand much like a traditional tree, mounted from the ceiling like a light fixture, or mounted on the wall.
