Living in the great state of Oklahoma has given most of us an appreciation for the changing of the seasons and all the beauty it brings. However, with the beauty comes seasonal allergy suffering for many us. So the question is how can I make my home "allergy proof"?

Many experts recommend starting in our bedroom since we each spend approximately 1/3 of our day there. Suggestions include:

• Wash bedding in temperatures of 130º's or more at least once per week.
• Cover pillows and mattresses in dust mite proof coverings.
• Replace curtains/drapes with washable shades or blinds.
• Remove any clutter or items that cannot be easily wiped down with a cloth.
• Replace carpet with hardwood, linoleum, or tile. If area rugs are used, make sure they are easilywashable. If carpet is a must, use the lowest pile carpet available.

Suggestions for the remainder of the home include:

• Limit the number of plants in the home, soil can contain molds.
• Use proper ventilation in both the kitchen and bathroom to prevent moisture build-up.
• Remove wallpaper and replace with mold-resistant paint or tiles.
• Try and maintain the household temperature around 70º and the humidity between 30 and 40%.
